Alembic Sighting - The Voice, Season 17, Dec 2019
« on: March 01, 2020, 04:26:59 PM »
I noticed this when it was first broadcast, but hadn't been able to track down the video until now. "Katie Kadan Grooves to LaBelle's "Lady Marmalade" - The Voice Live Top 8 Performances 2019"
Does any one know the player? Of course, it's possible that they're just miming and the instrument was chosen only for it's looks. I'm thinking 5-string Maple Essence with Orion head-stock, and a blue or green transparent finish.

Each link goes to a specific frame that shows the bass:

Nice catch Tom.  I am curious of what others think... it is kinda hard to tell if it is just for show or not.

Saw the bassist looking at her left hand a few times... something you wouldn’t expect from someone pretending to play.

Prerecorded, I'd say.  But it's clear she can play so hopefully she's the one on the track.
(I've never watched this show so I don't know who is in the house band.)
She's chosen the proper tool for the job in any case! :)

Sasha Krivtsov is the usual house bass player from "The Voice" house band. I watch the show more to see what the house band will do than for the singing.

Consistently plays smoking parts that are totally right for the genre of the thousands of songs he plays.

Always rocking a cool bass. I especially like the Pino-esque Precision.

And - always looks cool -- not just cool -- bass player cool.

I played twice the Voice show as house bassist, subbing for the guy that usually plays that. It's always live, I think that's even the agreement with the television... It was a fun gig.
The bass player’s function, along with the drums, is to be the engine that drives the car… everything else is merely colours.

Wow! Dream gig! Congrats!

It appears performances are live. On the US version of the show, it does seem occasionally there may be a dancer who mimes with a guitar, bass, or other instrument, while the "real" house band member is playing the actual part off-stage.
