Ram Dass passed away yesterday at the age of 88. I met him a few times, the first back in 1995. With some friends, we had put together an exhibit entitled “H.R. 95”, which stood for Human Rights 1995. It coincided with the U.N. Convention on Human Rights in San Francisco that year. The “H.R. 95” exhibit had pictures, stories, artwork, writings, etc., of people imprisoned on drug charges, mostly cannabis. There was an accompanying program with speakers and musicians. I was doing sound when one of the performers didn’t show up and I was asked to go on in her place. I hadn’t performed before an audience in a long while and was quite nervous. As I stood onstage, I noticed Ram Dass sitting in the front row. He looked at me and smiled. Immediately I felt calm, relaxed and confident. I have always remembered that highly spiritual moment, and always will.
May the Four Winds Blow You Safely Home.
