How to ground the Shielding?
« on: December 02, 2019, 07:02:05 AM »
I just shielded my Guild Starfire bass. I have AXY pickups with a filter, 3-way Q switch, master volume and blend. As far as I understand, this set up needs no additional grounding. However, I added shielding to the cavity and this needs to get grounded to be effective. Can someone tell me where I should connect the shielding to, I assume, the output jack?

Additionally, should i be grounding the strings and bridge as well? They are not currently grounded.

No ground to bridge is needed :-)
Just make a "box" in the cavity (also add shielding material on the backplate) the pots will make the ground connection for you.

For the shield to be effective, it needs to be a cage surrounding the electronics. Make sure the backplate is also shielded, and the purple areas I've circled should be shielded as well so that they can contact the shield on the underside of the backplate.

Is there shielding on the other side of the green circled cardboard? just remember you're trying to enclose the electronics within the shield.

The pickups are fully shielded, and the wires from the pickups are shielded too, so there's no need to work on the pickup cavities at all. Flip is correct, the system is self-grounding once the rivets that hold the pots together contact the shield you've installed.
