It does have an Ebony neck laminate, so that should beef up the price a touch. It is also one of my favorite Spalted Beech basses we've made. I love that bass!

I love the way the spalted top (it is Maple or Beech?) blends into the maple in the neck laminate by having that lighter color in the center. Do you still have spalted wood with a light center and long spalt lines if I wanted to place a custom order?

This one was Spalted Beech. I have some Spalted Maple now that shares the characteristic of a lighter center and some longer lines - it's not quite as linear as that Beech from 2008, but it is beautiful in its own right (plus bonus flame figure!). These are two placements on the same top. I've got several of these bookmatches so successive slices for top and back is no problem. Enjoy!

Thanks for those pics Mica! Very interesting, but I really want to find a very linear spalt pattern and a light center that can create an almost seamless transition to the maple laminate in the neck. Is this something you can source? We should probably take this off line to email.

Meanwhile, I'm daydreaming about a series 2 small body using that second sample with a 7-layer neck of flamed maple with 3 stripes of walnut and 2 stripes of ebony. Outrageously pricey, sustain for days and walnut warmth. At least, that's what Im imagining. But boy would it look striking.
