[RETRACTED] For Sale or trade - Europa 5 string Walnut top
« on: September 29, 2019, 08:41:35 AM »
I have a 1991 Europa 5 string bass that I am looking to sell or trade.

The bass is in great shape cosmetically and plays great.
When I received it, I found that the three switches had been disconnected. I then realized that the switches are not the originals.
For some reason the previous owner had the switched disconnected and then just put dummy switches in their place to fill the holes.
The rest of the electronics are original Alembic parts. Volume, blend and filter. All work great without issue.

What this bass needs to be back to 100% is a Q switch and two 3-way cut/flat/boost switches.
It will also need 3 collet knobs as the knobs currently on the bass are chrome after-market knobs. (maybe you do not care about this detail?)
The Q switch is available in the store here for $45. I don't see the 3 way switches but I imagine they are a similar cost. The collet knobs are $12 each.

I am contemplating whether to buy these parts myself and have my guitar tech/luthier install the switches or to sell or trade to one of you fine people.
I currently have a lot of projects so it would be worth it to me to pass this one on last a bargain to someone here who has the wherewithall to get this bass back to 100%.
Or, perhaps there is someone out there that just wants a great deal and doesn't care about the three switches.

Looking for $3000 or best offer. (or equivalent trade value)

Specs:
Europa 5 string
1991
Walnut top, Mahogany core.
34" scale
Europa electronics (the 3 switches are disconnected, needs new Q switch, two 3-way switches and 3 collet knobs to be back to original)

Update:
Just heard back from Mica.
Turns out that these are Essence electronics in the bass.
Weird! No idea how it got to be this way.
Anyway, Mica says that Europa electronics are $625.
No way to add switches to the existing Essence electronics so the only way to get it back to Europa electronics is to add a new set.

The good news is that the bass plays great and sounds excellent! Here is a video I just made after changing the strings and setting it up.

I also added some correct collet knobs.
Here are some current photos fo the bass as is looks with new knobs.

Do you have a detailed close up of the scuffing on the lower back pictured (attached) on the Reverb ad? Are they through to the wood? Did Mica say if the tuners were the original Alembics? Looks like they were changed to match the silver knobs. New collet knobs included with sale?

Thank you so much!

Yes, collet knobs are included as mentioned above.
Dings appear to just be in the surface/finish.
I don’t have a better photo at present but can upload more tomorrow if it is still available.
However, there is a sale pending...

This bass is no longer available.

After much thought and deliberation, I am going to restore the bass myself and either keep it in my collection or sell it at a later date.
