I have actually played one of the AG Signature D-18's a while back... it was nice. Martin has done a pretty good job with their many Artist Signature Models in capturing the stories that went along. I think it takes people like Dick Boak to provide that continuum with a company like Martin.

Like Sherriff Taylor, I tend to reach for my old 1950 D-18 first.

That's interesting about the guitar. I always liked the Darling episodes as well as the Ernest T Bass ones.

Ernest T. bass is my personal hero!  (Well, he and Serge Storms).

I can related to the Ernest T type as we had one in the small Missouri town I lived in for a couple of years as a kid. He would show up in town every few months for a couple of hours. My uncle ran a kind of department/five and dime store and I remember him announcing a warning over the store PA whenever the Barney was seen in the vicinity. To avoid breakage they would lock the doors, turn off the lights and move to the back of the store until he passed. For the few customers that might be in the store they would check them out at the basement register and let them leave via the backdoor near the loading chute. Every time I see and Earnest T Bass episode I think of Barney and laugh.

I always enjoyed Otis, the town drunk.  And one can’t mention Serge without Coleman, (and Lenny from the earlier books).  Glad you’re enjoying the books, Peter.

Here's my only Mayberry observation .....Everyone in that show was Single......except Otis......and he was the town drunk!

Here's another Mayberry (or Mayberry-related) observation:  Watch Jeff Bridges's hilarious movie The Amateurs, and count how many characters' names are lifted right from The Andy Griffith Show (Andy, Barney, Otis, Thelma, Helen, Floyd, Howard) or variations thereon (no Ernest T. Bass, but Ernest G. Pike is there).
