Now that's interesting
« on: May 22, 2019, 12:54:04 PM »
On our walk today (finally got a day dry enough to take one!) we stopped at the library so She could get a book; while I waited, I picked up the current issue of American History magazine, because the cover had  mention of an article about the Precision Bass.  It was nothing earth-shaking for me, or any of you, but a nice write-up for a general audience; concentrated on its impact in the hands of James Jamerson & Carol Kaye.
There was a little side-bar interview with Carol in which she relates how, after going in for a guitar session & being handed a P-Bass when the bassist was a no-show, she bought 2 on her way home & added it to her listing with the union.
She said she got so busy after that that she never even had time to change strings.  So every, 2 or 3 years, she'd trade one of Precisions in on a new one - as a way to get fresh strings!

Kinda like how some folks used to trade their car in for a new one when the ashtray was full.
