Hey Stoney:

Very cool knobs (yours too Roger!) So tell me all about your Brown Bass. As a fellow BB owner I'm really interested in them in particular. You know, their history the whole deal. When did you get yours? The wood in that picture looks awesome! How do you care for it?

Hey Jeff, (cool story about your bass, by the way). The BB is the new re-issue, walnut & myrtle woods, oil finish. I've only had it about 1.5 years. I just wipe it down with a soft cotton cloth, nothing on it at all. You may notice that i've had some work done on it. I've added a master volume control and a bass boost/cut switch. Next year I'm planning on putting LED's on it and perhaps a treble boost/cut switch. I love this bass, although the neck is a bit flat for my taste I've finally gotten quite used to playing it.

You can get a set of these knobs through the Alembic store. That's what I'd do!

Thanks for the reply. My BB is matched Maple top pieces and myrtle wood back. I'll be posting pics soon. Any pics of yours here on the site? I'd love to see the differences between the two Brown Basses. Some of which I know - like the moving of the pickup selector switch. . whats your Serial #?

You know the *only* thing about my BB I don't care for is the medium scale. I wish I could have the same setup, feel and quality (and ease of play that's the thing!) in a Long scale version. I know it would totally chance the design though. . Long scale basses (like my old Rick and of course P-Basses etc) just get a more solid low end sound due to the physics of the string length.

Anyway. . it's great to be an Alembic owner isn't it?

Hey Jeff,
Here's the only good pic I have of the BB. Don't have the serial# handy. Is your BB new, custom job. Alembic won't generally make a medium scale with that body, it's too top heavy. Almost all are short scale unless special ordered. The myrtle and walnut really give this bass some spectacular lows, regardless of the scale.

Being an Alembic owner....Yup, I just sit back and grin when someone asks me about one of my basses.

Damn! That's hot! I always liked the BBs with the dark wood on the outside. It would be very cool someday for us to get together with our Alembics and see them side-by-side! I promise the second I get mine camera ready I'll post a picture or two of it now. Yesterday, I spent about an hour going through the entire Alembic site and further educating myself about the history of this groundbreaking company. I was SO inspired by Susan Wickershams Long Story about their family company that I got busy going through my old picture archives for my band Glass and dug up *every single picture* of me and my BB back in '74 - '75! If our brothers here don't think it too indulgent, I'd like to post a few of them. . Man. . did I have a TON of hair back then(-;

Cool, why not post a few under the Showcase thread. BTW, I had a 1981 Series Ibrown bass but ended up selling it. Bought it for 800.00, sold it for 1650.00. The neck was too close to the neck pickup for my taste.

Let's see some pics in the showcase.

p.s. One of the pics I post will be the original receipt - you'll all see that I paid a whopping $1250.00 Big Ones for mine in '74. Of course that was considered unthinkable for most guitars then. When I re-bought it this past month from it's only other owner, I paid him $2000 cash. And I hope he never finds out what a steal that was - he's obviously a very close friend to even let it go at all . .I'll take your suggestion about posting all these in the Showcase area too.
