Hello everyone. I have just received and installed a new set of custom made knobs on my 2001 MK Standard (The Mandarin). They were made by Roger at THG Knobs. See their website at www.thgknobs.com. He did a great job matching the cocbolo on my bass and also put birds-eye maple inlay markers on them too. Great price and great service. Here's a pic. Many Thanks, Roger!

Oh man...those are lovely. I wonder if they can do Wenge? I dunno, it's probably too soft. Man, I wonder what would go well with Wenge?

Ideas, anyone? What do you think would look good on an Epic. I gotta get me some of that...

Not sure about the cost or possibility of Wenge knobs, but mine in cocobolo with the inlays were 85 dollars for the set of 4. I was referred to THG by Mica as a more affordable alternative to having knobs made by Alembic. Just another example of Alembic's great customer service.

Very nice! What a beautiful and unique idea. Thanks for sharing! Could they put an Alembic symbol on each knob in contrasting wood? Probably a copyright problem..

Hi All. Thanks to Matt's post, I too contacted THG Knobs. I wanted something a litte spicer yet subtle for my Brown Bass. In just a few short weeks, my knobs arrived. I gotta tell ya, Roger at THG Knobs does a fantasic job at a VERY reasonable price and he knows his stuff. Great job Roger! Here's a pic.

I'm going to have a set of Roger's THG knobs for the Dragon's Wing - that much I've decided. I have three ideas at the moment.

1). Maple for the main wood, inlaid on top with abalone, then a purpleheart stripe down the knob, with a gloss finish on the wood.

2). Roger's suggestion:-
3/4 diameter domed knob
5/16 (8mm) Abalone inlay centered on top of knob
Abalone surrounded by a Maple ring
Maple ring surrounded by Purpleheart ring
Purpleheart surrounded by Maple knob body
Purpleheart position line down knob side

3). Maple knob body with coco bolo top inlay, with a sterling silver dot inlaid into it (the Dragon's Wing will have sterling silver side markers on the top of the neck).

I'm open to suggestions for this please folks, I have offered Roger the same opportunity. Anyone got any ideas for me to consider?

Hey Rog,
Just checking our your bass. NICE, I've been following the progress. Naturally, a choice like this is a matter of personal taste. I prefer a subtle look with and offsetting color (to match another part of the bass). Perhaps an ebony body with a top to match the maple(?) in the neck.
Once I put mine on my BB, it made all the difference in the world as far as appearance goes. You can see the knobs but they weren't jumping off the bass. Hey, man, it's up to you..have fun with it.

Very exciting looking knobs, i must say. Does anybody here have a set of the older style top hat knobs that they would like to sell? if so, please let me know, i need a few for the used mark king model i bought, its missing a few things. Thanks
