Strange serial on Persuader?
« on: April 03, 2019, 06:09:31 AM »
Hi there,

Looking to buy a used Persuader, actually listed here as well:

http://club.alembic.com/index.php?topic=24458.0

How does it look to you, peeople of all Alembic wisdom?

I just asked the seller about serial:

90 FGA 11 USA

And failed to decode it - it looks like 1990 bass, roght? And how about the rest of the numebr?

Thanks a lot for any input, David

Looks like a standard flame maple Persuader from 1990, and the USA stamping is usual too, but I can't imagine what "FGA 11" would mean. F was a letter code for a Vector variant of Persuader, which this does not look like anyway. Still wouldn't explain the G or A letter codes or the 11 sequence.  ???

Perhaps the original purchaser ordered it with their initials integrated into the serial number somehow? [wild guess]

*Perhaps the F is actually a P, and the G and A are mis-struck numericals? [less of a wilder guess]

It's just being read incorrectly - it's probably worn. The last 4 characters are numbers, so GA11 might be 6811, 6511, etc. Maybe they can send you a large photo of the serial number so we can try and figure it out. I'm pretty good at coaxing details out of photos with software, and some almost illegible numbers have been revealed this way.

How about the old fashion piece of paper and a pencil to get an impression of the serial.

Yes! A rubbing is wonderful, but I find it very hard to convince people to do this for me.

Zooooomed in...

90P is there, but that's a tough one. Shouldn't that bass have the number stamped in the electronics cavity too? (my 89P 5559 does)

Pretty bass!

Yes, if the serial number is stamped on the truss rod cover, then it should also be in the electronics cavity.
