Road Trip
« on: March 14, 2019, 02:13:47 PM »
So, I finally get to go meet my new granddaughters; don't how much time I'll have, but just in case - is anyone gigging in or around Sacramento Mar 29-Apr 8?

My band Stonetrout is playing Saturday night, April 6th, 7:30-10:00 p.m., in Berkeley, a mere 80 minutes from Sacto at the Art House.  It is a very cool, very Berkeley 60's gallery and cultural center.  It would be great to hook up if you have the time.

You can assure her it is a very mellow comfortable place.  It's like a big living room with about 40 chairs, a couple of easy chairs and a fireplace.  There are pot luck dishes set up on a table in back.  I believe there is some free wine and you can bring in a beer, if you want.  The walls are full of blown up photos of People's Park, Berkeley in the 60's, psychedelic posters, etc., and there's a light show.   The guy who runs it is a photographer and old hippie. It's also a lower volume gig.

Wow that sounds awesome... maybe an entrepreneur could open up a place like that in the Midwest?
Hmmm.   ;)

Well, crap.  The D-I-L just told us that her mom (whose place we'll be staying at) is coming back on the 5th - so we have leave then, and find something to do between then & arriving on the 8th in Hot Desert Springs to see the college friend who taught to make chili (award-winning chili, I might add) and play guitar (depending on how loosely you define "play"...).

Guess the 6th is out, Bill.  Bad buzz.

Anybody have suggestions for a 3-day, 2-night trip down CA 99 Sac to Desert Hot Springs?

Peter (who would by no means be opposed to at least one winery or microbrewery......)

Bummer!  If it would make any difference, you could stay with us for a day or two.  Nothing fancy- a comfortable queen size futon in the living room, but the price is right and you could sample our fine colletion of California's finest.  lol.

As for a trip down 99, there's not much to do most of the way.  I guess you could sing "Lodi" in Lodi, and "Goodbye Your Honor" in Turlock.  One place I've been to a few times and have always enjoyed is Forestiere Underground Gardens in Fresno.  An old time Italian immigrant built a series of rooms and connecting passageways underground.  His descendants run the place.  Very hokey 50's-like roadside attraction feel.  Closer to Desert Hot Springs, Joshua Tree National Monument is wonderful - and you can commune with the spirit of Gram Parsons (I assume you know the story).

If you head down to the Joshua Tree area and surrounding desert you may be able to catch some of this year's super bloom. If you decide to do so book a room ASAP, lots of people doing the same this year and not a lot of places to stay.

Along with singing Lodi you could sing Truckin' in Turlock... it "rose to the top of the charts in Turlock" back in 1970...

I've read that during the government shutdown, a lot of damage was done to Joshua Tree.

If we could hang the night of the 5th, that would be most groovacious, Bill!
Your e-mail is no longer in your profile, so hit me up at mine, which is (well, not in your profile, you understand).

Peter:

If you look at any of my posts, including this one, (and everyone else's for that matter), you will see a small envelope symbol under my avatar pic to the left.  Click on that for email.
