Brodtrager 4-string Bass for sale
« on: March 06, 2019, 12:22:13 AM »
I bought this custom vintage 80's Brodtrager Austrian-made bass from a pawn shop on ebay -praying- and thinking that the pickups could be Alembics. The seller said it was active and in good shape, but didn't know much about basses, so I bought it. Well, it's a cool bass but the pickups are --passive-- "Alembic style" Bartolini's. I popped the bridge pickup to check and they appear to be Bart dual coils. It has that dark, even, Bart sound--Gibson-style electronics are working and quiet. This set-neck bass is 34 scale. I checked the truss rod and it works fine and can get the neck very straight. Schaller hardware. 8lbs. This bass would kill with a set of Alembic pickups to drop in if a club member has a set in need of a bass that won't need routing or any of that. Vol-vol, tone/tone passive electronics. It presents well for a vintage bass and wasn't abused too much. The point body with the Pedulla vibe is kinda cool. I immediately thought it could be a interesting fretless. Has dings and scratches here and there, no major damage, or breaks. The frets are ok, not super-worn (no big ruts), a dressing and fret cleaning would trick it out--no obvious fret buzzes when played normally. Missing a small inlay at 12th fret. Has (came with) a funky hard case with stickers all over it. I can send more pics if needed. Paypal only, please. 675.00 shipped to lower USA only.

This looks almost exactly like Hoyer Session basses that were made in Germany somewhere around late 70s to early 80s, those were really nice, the 2 differences I see are slightly different electronics/controls (some or all Hoyers had a "slap dent" and an XLR/active too), and that Hoyers were neck-through. The rest seems to have carried over, including Schaller bridge and tuners.

I recently got one that was converted to 8 strings, and I really like it, to the point that I'm buying an unconverted 4-string (reserved and pending, original except the pickups), and I'd buy yours to defret if it was in the EU. For what it's worth, I'm paying 900 euros for each of the Hoyers and loving it, and I live next street to Germany. Besides electronics the only thing I'd change is I'd add more contouring of the edges, it might feel tad sharp if you tilt the bass while sitting. Here's a couple pics, I can make more of the 8-string.

The old various Hoyer bass guitars were so cool.
