Yeah I do have a PJB Briefcase it's a great little amp and I use that for home practice mainly for electric bass and low volume rehearsals but on the classico generally it sounds fine if it is not pushed.
The low E seems a bit much for those tiny speakers and I have to alter how I pluck that string so that it stays in balance with the other strings. When I first got the Schertler, my perception was that it gave the classico a more upright bass sound than the PJB did. I do think it too would struggle if played hard. But I got it cheap enough to sell on and upgrade if needed.  We shall see when it comes back from a service and I can try them out again side by side.

I can't say enough good about the Acoustic Image stuff. To this day, my primary upright bass rig is my old Clarus II, an earlier 2-channel model. In addition to a fantastic EQ section, it has a flip-switchable notch or high-pass filter, a DI, an effects loop send/return, and two SpeakOn outs. Fits in a zipper bag with all cabling. It sounds great with bass guitars too, and you can connect any combination of speaker cabinets to it imaginable. It's so good, I put an Alembic sticker on top. Now what I need is a Classico...   ::)

(*the Jeannie and the Rakhi are just for good luck...)

I’ve played upwards of 5000 gigs on upright, usually amplified. For 43 years I’ve used an Ampeg B15n. Lately I’ve replaced it with a GK MB112 - II. So that’s 200 watts with a 12” speaker. It also has a second powered 12” speaker that I never bother to bring. Usually there is a drummer that determines everybody’s volume. The GK works for what I do.

Really, I would try and use the amps you already have. I totally bugged Ray Brown one time by asking him so much about his amp and pickup. He basically said ‘look, forget about the gear and worry about the playing’. Yes sir.

I would be very surprised if your ‘Barefaced Baby’ with the 12” spkr will not do the job.

I did use the Barefaced Baby and F-1x/power on a gig a couple of weeks ago and whilst bass players in the audience said it sounded great. However we didn't have a soundcheck and as a result I didn't get a chance to alter the EQ much in order to get the best sound. From where I was standing it was a bit bass heavy.
I have seen a Barefaced baby cab used by an acoustic double bass player a couple of years back and that sounded great. Once I get my Schertler back and taken it on a few gigs if it doesn't cut the mustard I will invest in a small clear sounding bass head and use the BBII.

Another school of thought that may work for you. If you are doing higher level dates, don’t bring an amp. Let the sound engineer do what he does.

You could go into a pre amp with the Classico, if you can’t let go of some control.

LA bassist Katie Thiroux never brings an amp, she may not even own one. She goes with the monitor to hear herself, bass goes FOH. She is very successful.    https://www.katiethiroux.com

It’s an option for the higher level players who have access to a quality PA and pro sound person.

Yep a good option as i had considered getting the Stanley Clarke EBS Acoustic Preamp.
However i am a beginner so nowhere near being a high level player. 🤫🤨

Ron Carter uses Epifani amp and cab.  Maybe check out that combo if you can.

I got the schertler Unico back from the service and it sound great. Lovely clean woody tone which is more double bass like than my PJB Briefcase. As it has a sub output for an extension low end cab. I bought a used Barefaced LF800 https://barefacedbass.com/product-range/LF800.htm which is a powered sub woofer.
Set it up for my last classico gig and it sounded great. The Unico has 5 inputs I think and so I had one, keyboard player had one and the drummers bass drum into another and it worked well with no struggling. However neither the unico sub out or the powered sub have any level control so turning things up loud may make the sound more bass heavy but I guess time and familiarity will work it's magic.

I am not sure if GP has been around lately.  He posted a brief snippet on his Instagram playing his Classico and it sounded fabulous, it was in his practice room so I am not sure if the system he used would fulfill that which you desire..

‘georgepricebass’ is his tag on Instagram
