Can I use alembic pickups with other electronics that aren't alembic preamp?

There are players who have done that and over the years we have seen alembic basses on ebay with non alembic electronics. I tried doing it once but found a lot of things lacking in my sound so put the alembic electronics back in my bass. I won’t do that again.
If you plan to do that just remember these pickups are low impedance and designed for alembic electronics so at a minimum you would require active electronics to acheive any decent kind of performance. In my view the alembic sound includes the whole electronics package. But you may want a different experience. Experiment and feed back how you get on.

I agree with Jazzy. I ran some Series pickups passively and then with a different preamp for a while and it was always a compromise. Once the right electronics came together, the sound was at a whole other level.
