New Guy In Connecticut
« on: November 20, 2018, 09:56:30 PM »
Greetings everyone! I've already posted a couple but figured it's best to formally introduce myself.
I just bought my first Alembic - I play guitar and piano and I've wanted one of these masterpieces since high school. Well, I'm 60 now and proud to have one.

I play in an original classic-rock-type band ( Doug Wahlberg Band ) and our thing is mainly the opening act for the classic rock national acts that come through New England.  I play keys and guitar and am half the writing team. We've opened for tons of bands like Grand Funk, The Animals, Foriegner, Cheap Trick, CCR, George Thorogood, Three Dog Night. Last month we opened for The Rascals and we just confirmed an opener for Jefferson Starship coming up in March.

I have degrees in piano and I've been playing out for years in various local cover bands but I never thought that at this age I would be playing at this level. The best part is that I get to meet my musical heros from my youth and hang out and talk with them. (And hoist a few with them)
Anyway, I'm in a really good place in life - Recent second marriage to a very cool woman who actually supports my music and gear purchases. Kids are grown and gone and we are enjoying life.

I Seriously look forward to retiring from the rat race, growing a very long ponytail and spending my days on a beach somewhere very warm.
I look forward to meeting you guys here and hearing your stories.
Jeff

Hi, Jeff, and welcome to the club!  It's always nice to have another six-stringer.  Sounds like you are having a blast.  So what guitar did you get?  Have you posted pics yet?

Bill, the guitar one

I picked up a Darling in spalted maple last week.
By far the best guitar I've every owned!

Jeff--

Like you, I'm just about 60 now.  I was a big ELP fan in the early to mid 70s, I wanted to be a bass player, and I always wanted an Alembic.

Instead, I ended up playing guitar until I just bought myself a short scale Alembic a few weeks ago!

Cheers,

David
