(x) History request for 90CH6036
« on: October 25, 2018, 07:55:50 AM »
I bought this Elan (90CH6036) for a couple of weeks ago. Would love to learn more about it.
The bass is great to play on, and sounds very good. Absolutely love it. But it has some cosmetical issues, so i might send it in for a refinish at some point.

That is a superb looking bass. I recall checking that out a few times and there was a bit of discussion about it on one of the facebook Alembic Groups. I'm a lover of Elan basses and that one ticks all the right boxes for me. Dark Wood top & mostly maple construction. Signature electronics is the icing on the cake. I hope you enjoy playing it and get the cosmetics done if necessary.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Thanks! Yeah, this elan is perfection in my eyes, so it would be awsome to bring it back to mint condition again.
The issues i have found on it: Some cracks in the finish on the back, and the hardware has some corrosion. I can also feel the edge along the neck laminates on the back of the bass. Not very much, but it is noticable so i might want to adress this as well. And then it is that KC inlay of course.

Congratulations & Compliments on that beautiful Custom Elan, and Welcome. I posted the Reverb ad here in our Swap Shop when it came up recently, as it was quite a find. Glad someone found it a home.

Just a suggestion - that bass was in the Southeastern United States, a geographic region rather famously humid. It is possible after some time that the different woods may contract and become more uniform, and therefore less of a noticable ridge feel. If not, I would guess that the finish is thick enough that it could be wet-sanded to level these, then polished out to glossy again. This may also be all you need to polish out the finish imperfections. (difficult to say without seeing them) I would wait until the wood has had time to acclimate to your location... at least 6 months.

The KC inlay is a relatively easy issue for a qualified luthier to address, but as JazzyVee suggests elsewhere, a Sharpie pen is an easy temporary fix.  ;)
