Mica, or whoever can help... adding inlays
« on: October 19, 2018, 08:55:40 PM »
I searched this, sorry if I missed another post... I am interested in sending an Essence to you and having you add inlays to fretboard.  Is this possible?  Thanks

It is possible, but we prefer to approach it from a remanufacturing angle and refret at the same time. It's about $350 for the refret and the inlays start at $100 for mother of pearl ovals at this time. We would need to talk about the schedule before you ship to make sure we have the bass for the shorted amount of time.

Hi Mica,
Speaking of neck mods, I have a '92 Europa 4 that I want fiber optic fret markers retro fitted. Is that something you do ? I had Bob Groat do it to a non- Alembic years ago and it was the best decision I ever made.
I'd love to hear that it's something you do. Thanks,
Mike B.

We're LED folks here - we can help you with an LED retrofit if you like.

I have two Alembics with LEDs, an Alembicized Fernandes Masterhand with FretFX LEDs, and one of my builds with a Moses graphite neck with fiber optics.  No comparison.  LEDs are far superior to the fiber optic markers.

Like Bill, I have alembics with original leds and also the aftermarket FretFX on all my other basses without LED's. Both work extremely well and the benefit of the alembic ones is that they don't increase the width of the neck. Although the fretfx add about 2 or 3 mm extra width to the neck its not noticeable after a while and then only if you put your thumb round the neck which I do sometimes,  legacy of being a guitarist I suppose.
There is a guy over here in the UK called Martin Simms who does after market illuminated fret markers without removing the fretboard but I don't know if he uses fibre optics or LEDs' like alembic. One of the members here from the UK has had his Mark King signature done and is completely appy with the end result.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!
