I played a wedding on the 16th floor of a Boston hotel last night. To my dismay, the second I plugged into my amp my Essence was broadcasting a local radio station. I tried different outlets, no pedalboard, groundlift, different plugs -nothing solved the issue. I got through the gig with my filter rolled all the way off, as well as the Q off, which minimalized the problem about 90%. Looking back, I had this problem once before: another wedding gig, on the top floor of a hotel in downtown Providence.
I feel pretty comfortable ruling out weddings as the culprit here, which leaves the elevation. Electrical is also unlikely: one venue was very dated but last night’s was a newer build.
Are there any methods or products to deal with this?? Both times this quickly became an embarrassing issue during a high priority gig, which I would not anticipate with a top of the line instrument. Both times, no one else in the 7 piece band was affected. Thanks for your help.
