I would like to know of a good bass tech in the Boston area, where I could take my Alembic basses to have the neck adjusted. If anyone could help, I would appreciate it. I have just moved here, and there is no Alembic dealer here.

Hi Jim,

welcome to the club: the most weird place to be concerning low frequencies, with the most lovely and friendly people you can meet.
So you got different Alembic basses mmmmm ...are you maybe related to Brother Rami he has a wood of Alembics LOL and an abcolute expert on Excels.
So don't be shy an feed us with some juicy pictures of the Alembic family at your place.

About working on your basses.
I'm not from the Boston area but there are Brothers in the ANEC who can help I suppose. In the risk of being expelled from this club as someone who undermines otherones profession I would say: have you tried it to do yourself? (Don't tell me you are not handy ...I'm a more technical moron than you are anyway and I did it).
If you poke around in these threads you will find a lot of valuable info. I suggest you use the Search engine available. Brother Bob and Brother Joey are masters in tuning a bass together with a bunch of other bassdudes I forget the name right now. I know Brother Joey (Bigredbass) wrote a procedure once about adjusting the neck that in my opinion is now a standard thread for Alembic owners. What I'm concerned: I printed it out and keep it with Bonnie, I followed the procedure step by step (you need patience) but it is VERY REWARDING! Bonnie plays like a dream!
Anyway, just my ideas.

Hey Jim,

Welcome to the club. There are a number of good techs in the area that I can recommend. However, like brother Paul mentioned, this is something that can be done easily by yourself. Anything more than a simple set up like this, I usually leave to the pros though.

Are you ever up in the Lowell area??? I'd be more than happy to show you how to do it.

Hey,

Thanks for the responses. I'm willing to try to adjust the intonation myself (and basically know how), but I'm not willing to mess with the truss rods, and thta's what I need adjusted. The change in climate from Dallas to Boston has made my fretted bow out a bit. My fretless seems to be fine though.

Sorry, I don't have pics. I have a fretted Rogue with flame koa, and a fretless Essence with flame maple. They are both beautiful, but I have no pics.

If you feel like trying it yourself, I can help you through it. Sometimes things are much easier when you have someone around. If you don't feel that adventurous, definitely talk to Dino about who he recommends.

By the way, I am starting a batch of Stout beer this weekend guys and still have some nice aged Red Ale!

the best guy in boston for electrics and basses is Wolf [i dont know his last name] but he's in charge of M.I.S.C., the Musical Instrument Service Center in boston, so you can look it up in the phone book and its right near berklee off mass ave. I recommend him for any work that needs to be done to any electric instrument.

Hey Jake,

You are right. His last name is Giannades, I think I spelled it right. Just as a correction though, Tony is the man in charge. He's the owner and does all of the amp repairs. Wolf is the guitar god. The two of them make a great pair for one stop repairs.
Another guy to see is Corey over at Rock City Guitars in Somerville. He knows quite a bit about both as well.

BTW-I forgot to mention. Wolf is a great bass player too!!! He gigs regularly in town with a jump blues band. I forgot their name though.

Wasn't Wolf with Wilbur & The Dukes? I know he used to play in Worcester quite a bit....
