Am I the only one?

Who loves my Alembic with filters wide open strung with round-wound strings!? I feel If I need that Fender esq sound I just roll off filter and play finger style.

I thought that was the method that Mark King used with his Alembics, everything full on, filters fully open and q switches on full.
What kind of music do you use that wide open setting on? If you were doing a gig with PA support I doubt whether the FOH guy's would let that much top end into the venue.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

On my fretted basses I pretty much play with the filters open all of the time and use round wounds. I use the Q-switches more or less as an effect sticking with off or middle for normal playing and full on when I want something to stand out.

Filters wide open for me, too.  A bit of Q on the bridge.  Sun Beams - on both fretted and fretless.

You can always take highs out, but it's hard to get the sparkle in if it's not there from the source.

Wow.  You guys are so DIFFERENT from me!!  First of all, I've switched to flats, Chromes, though - so they're fairly bright at the outset.  But, on my Signature fiver, I usually play with NO treble at all on the neck pickup, and full treble and Q on the bridge pickup, with the balance between the two being my variable.  Works for me...!
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

A lot of the time and especially for the Mark King sound, (One of My Favorites), Filters Wide Open Q Switches on And Either DR High Beams or Status Round Wound Strings. On My Mark King Signature Deluxe Status Strings .90 .70 .50 .30! Talk about Snappy and Bright. Europa and Fender American Deluxe Jazz Basses DR High Beams .90 .75 .55 .35.
Don't use flat wounds on anything. But do roll off filters for different sounds sometimes.

Apart from the Chromes (currently getting to know TI Jazz Rounds) I'm with growlypants. Having the neck filter nearly closed gives it a nice woody sound that keeps me noodling. Add a nice wollop of Q boost makes for a healthy oomph. The bridge filter is wide open, with perhaps a smidgin of Q. (Pickup volume favouring the bridge.)
Somehow I think it's really up to the individual instrument more than to the strings - I got the same results with the original Alembic strings and with DR Hi Beams.
