Free Riffstation software for musicians
« on: June 13, 2018, 05:58:25 PM »
Some of you may be familiar with Riffstation.  I was aware of the name, but unfamiliar with what it does.

Apparently (I may be wrong about this), their plan is to be a web-based, on-line, subscription service, but because of some issues that have not yet been worked out, they are currently offering the desktop version for free.

I've downloaded it, but haven't yet installed it.

It looks like it could be a useful tool; and I thought it might be something some of you might find helpful.

Oh that's neat. It  looks like it may be free for a month. Not sure if it works for a month or free for a month.

Ah; I didn't notice any mention of a month.  When I went to download, I didn't see any indication that it was limited in time; but then I didn't see any indication that it wasn't limited either.

Just downloaded and about to try it out with some Return to Forever stuff and see how that works out. There doesn't seem to be a score writer or display option which is really what I want.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

Be aware it simplifies harmonies. Riffstation doesn't understands upper structures chords, just triads, so - depending on bass - it can takes a invertion as wrong root chord. Gives a hint, anyway (if not the chord, part of it). Cool is the filter that helps to isolate parts of a mixed stereo recording. Helpfull tool, David, thanks.
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

Yes; I tried it out and, as Mario stated, it simplifies chords.  So it doesn't really do transcriptions, but it does look like it can to some extent be helpful when learning a song.
