I guess I thought Keavin’s train of thought was “Alembic is to basses as Mercedes is to cars” and “Alembic is the Cadillac of basses”.

Having lived through the Vietnam era, I just can't understand calling a car a "KIA".  (And I still don't get "the code" here).

We are looking at how a Korean company is named based on an English acronym.  That’s like trying to figure out how KKK turbochargers passed the smell test .  Or how Chevy had the bad sense to name a car Nova and try to sell it in Mexico.  If I recall correctly, No Va translates to “won’t go”.  Not the best name for a car.  Then, there’s the Buick LaCrosse, which was sold under a different name in Canada, because the term LaCrosse has some rather crude sexual connotations in Quebec.  I was in one of the product planning discussions on this when the Canadian name was proposed.

Just re-read this thread.  I STILL don't get "the code".
