Blue side LED problems I suspect trim pot
« on: May 23, 2018, 10:43:00 PM »
I have a 2014 Buckeye Burl MK V with blue side LED markers. The first time I adjusted the trim pot from full bright to the lowest setting, the trim pot worked as it should with all LEDs evenly decreasing to minimum intensity. A week later I readjusted the trim pot back to full brightness, noticing that there was no LED output from the 15th fret.

So as I reduced intensity back down to minimum setting the first octave LED markers frets 3-12 completely extinguished after about a quarter turn well before reaching minimum threshold. The second octave LEDs reduced to minimum intensity like they should.

However, the 15th fret remained extinguished. Then I increased the trim pot back to full intensity and as I did so, eventually the first octave LEDs suddenly came back on matching the intensity of the second octave until all LED markers were back up to max intensity, except 15th fret LED which remains extinguished no matter what I do, including installing new, fresh LED batteries.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.

I would try working the pot to see if it is oxidation that can loose when turning the pot several times...
Not just a bass, this is an Alembic!

Thanks but aready tried that, including spraying the trim pot and on/off toggle with contact cleaner. Made no difference. The trim pot acts wonky but the toggle seems fine.

It's going to be difficult to troubleshoot this remotely. While issues with LEDs are rare, components can fail. I would want to see this bass in person when it's convenient to get it here so I can see what the problem is.

Oh, duh, I see you are in Santa Rosa. I found a dealer in Denver. Might take it to them next week. Don’t want to spring the cash for shipping and insurance right now. But thanks anyway.
