Robert (Bob) Moog Birthday !!

1934, Born on this day, Robert Moog,

inventor of the Moog synthesiser.

Robert died on 21st Aug 2005,

at his North Carolina home aged 71,

four months after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

The Gibson RD77 Artist Bass was introduced in 1977

and featured MOOG active electronics inside a modified Thunderbird shaped offset body.

Bob Moog personally designed the active electronics

which included a compression circuit for the neck pickup and an expansion circuit for the bridge pickup.

The circuit also included an active preamp boost.

It would have been so cool to have a Moog/Alembic collaboration - the Moog Little Phatty had what Moog called "RAC" - real analog control - the knobs are analog, but can also be programmed via MIDI - so you can save the settings but without the stepping you get with digital control. Wouldn't that be great, the ability to save your volume & filter settings for instant recall? Oh well, twisting the knobs is part of the fun too.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bob at the National Broadcasters Convention around 1985 or so , in NYC,

He was very Kind , as he told me about how he & Keith Emerson designed all that equipment from the ground up !!

I absolutely love my Lab Series L5 amp, designed by Moog. I have had four Labs and each was excellent. Also, I have an increasing collection of Minifooger pedals that always seem to do the trick. Mr. Moog was quite the guy!
