That is definitely a Distillate body. Standard Persuaders have a Spoiler body. With Alembic, you can mix and match features and body styles.

Persuader
Spoiler
Distillate
(The early Distillates had a slightly shorter upper horn, but then went to more of a Spoiler style.)

Serial number classifies it as a Persuader.
That is all I am trying to say.

From what you guys are saying it sounds like the ONLY thing about this bass that qualifies it as a Persuader are the controls.

It's a Persuader, but with plenty of upgrades. (Would you want to call it a Distillate with some downgrades? That just doesn't sound right.)

That body is a variation on the later (I think post-1985) Distillate pattern. It has an extended upper horn, and the bird tailpiece is located much closer to the end of the bass than on a Spoiler/Persuader body.

It is most definitely a Persuader, no question. A very very very very cool Persuader with a seldom seen custom body. Good luck with the sale.  ;)

Apparently the buyer didn't, either. It's back up for sale at Reverb and eBay at a much higher price.

That is correct Edwin, the bass is back up for sale. The buyer returned the bass.
It was actually a blessing in disguise that the buyer backed out because I did not set a reserve on the auction and it sold for much less than I expected.
Fair enough. That is how auctions go. You win some, you lose some.
Truth be told. I have $2200 into this beauty. I bought it from Joe. He will attest to the quality of the bass. (Actually, he already has)
It is my humble opinion that this bass is worth at least $2500, if not more. Seeing as how 4 string Persuaders with no upgrades go for $2k regularly, I think that this upgraded 5 string is worth $2500 or more. When I first listed it, I actually had an offer for $3000 from a buyer in Europe. I decided against sending it overseas though.
I then had another offer from a fellow in the states for about the same but he was waiting for a paycheck and then eventually changed his mind.
Thus, I do have empirical evidence to support my valuation. This is not like some of those Alembics on ebay and Reverb where the seller is asking two or three times actual value. I am just asking a little bit more, leaving room for buyers to make reasonable offers.
Yes, my asking price of $3295 may be on the high side, but as you can see, it is $3295 OR BEST OFFER.
If anyone here is interested, I would be happy to sell it for the same amount I paid which again is $2200. (plus actual shipping)
