Does anyone use flatwound strings on their Alembic bass? If so, what are the best brands
to use? Any and all advice is welcome.

Thomastik-Infeld jazz flats. Carol Kaye calls 'em the Rolls Royce of strings & I totally agree; I use them on all my Alembics.

for 4-string - the Chromes with the Jazz Flats a really close second (can't go wrong with either).

for 5-string - Jazz flats. The B-string on the Chromes is worthless.

I also use Labella Deep Talkin' Bass nylon tapewounds on my custom 6. Those strings really sing - very mellow and sweet.

I had the d' Addario chromes on my former Jazz-bass and using them only in big-band conditions. I liked them. OTOH there is not much to get over here, so I can't really say I CHOOSE them.

TI Jazz Flats all the way.

And stay away from K*n Sm*th Slickwounds: utterly unplayable.

I guess you buy your TI's in Holland? Or at a net-store? Can you help me. I really want to try those TI's and I don't get a hell of a choice in this apenland.

I like the D'Addario Chromes, but once in a while I get a set with strange overtones that makes the instrument sound out of tune.

I do like the TI's too, they are just different. I find them more midrangey and work better with my series II. I also like the low tension of this string.

Let's meet at the top of the Empire State Building. And don't forget to bring the Kinder surprise - it's a miniature bass rig! Goes wonderfully well with the purple cows fom Switzerland, only the brown notes keep woofing up after an hour or so.
