SCSD String length
« on: April 27, 2018, 12:45:52 AM »
Shopping for new strings for this, I know its a short scale bass, but Im not sure if that means I need short scale strings and I don't recall what i ordered before.

Can someone help me out here?

If I went with TI flats do I need a LS or SS string set?

Same for Pyramid Gold flats.  LS or SS string set?

thanks

I use D'addario medium scale strings on my SCSD bass.

On my small body standard short scale 73-32 which is also my user icon here the tailpiece is unusually set far back and as a result actually requires long scale strings. As well if you use short scale Pyramid Gold strings make sure that the ball ends are not small but standard size instead otherwise you will have to use small washers to hook into the tailpiece.

I use short scale pyramid gold flats on my Stanley Clarke short scale bass, they fit fine.

rv_bass , Yes I suspect the short scale pyramid flats on your bass would be correct . On my small standard body short scale there is a special circumstance due to the  unusual placement of the tail piece.

glocke , I suspect that you would be fine to proceed as per the statement of rv_bass .

Hi Wolf,
Yes, I should have clarified that mine is the standard bird tail piece with narrow spacing between tail piece and bridge (a bit different than yours), thanks for catching that. It’s good that you noted that small scale strings likely will not work on tail piece placements like yours (as always, love your bass!).
