... Albinos are 'technically' protected...

Never seen one before.

Not even the Winter brothers?   8)

Richard...

I should know better than to name him.  We met several months ago.  Albinos are 'technically' protected... but people are stupid.

That's pretty cool! I haven't seen a fully albino deer down here, but at a remote evening shift posting I had several years ago (a decade and change, actually...) we had an evening visitor to the Water Treatment Plant, a 'piebald' deer. Piebalds are splotched white and brown, they are often deaf or blind. I was reassigned from there in 2010... but that one hung around for a while I heard.

I no longer remember whether I saw Johnny live, although I was a fan and I have several albums.  I do remember seeing Edgar's band when they were touring the Frankenstein hit.

Meanwhile, speaking of scenery, evening before last I had to chase some more bears away from the house.  In the seventeen years I've lived here, this year we've seen the most bears around the house by far.

But none were white.   :)

When we first met earlier this year I thought he was a piebald.

I am conflicted.  I do not hunt, yet we have many deer that hangout.   I like venison.  I am working at getting our dogs NOT to bark at deer, telling them that ‘that might be your next meal’.  Now Richard has me feeling empathy for his different appearance.

Weeks ago a fellow white tail entered the pasture where Richard was.   There was recognition, then the other deer turned and walked away, I understand what anthropomorphism is and feel guilty of having it.   I also feel that anyone who would hunt him is NOT a sportsman.   Hitting a blazing white target is too easy - like fish in a barrel.

Last night my wife said he had a friend with him while eating the apples under the trees in the front yard.  :)

When the piebald we had was a fawn, the curious little guy would come up to the glass doors of the main Treatment Plant building at night and gaze at his reflection. He was either deaf, or just, didn't recognize danger, because we could walk right up behind him. The other night Operator and I were going to outfit him with one of our safety blue shirts one time... after some discussion, we thought that plan might be frowned upon by our employers and possibly some of the State Game Officials.  ::)

Bears on the streets are a constant of life in the town where our youngest is, and none of them are white, either - and he's in AK;  probably a better chance there than in NC, I'm thinking.

The cops carry rubber slugs for their shotguns for the sole purpose of "hazing" the bears out of town.

Fortunately we have had no bear incidents on the property, even when we were keeping 3 honeybee hives.

We saw them in the neighborhood but rumor is black bears don’t care for dogs and we have 4 of those.

A farmer nearby swears by loading shotgun shells with rock salt…. Once a bear feels that in their rear end they understand not to come shining around anymore…

As a yoot of questionable socialization, I knew of farmers who held the same opinion in re a rock-salt load as posterially applied to young hooligans; fortunately (and I do mean that quite literally; purely a matter of fortune) no halite hit my heinie........

I'll have to post some wildlife pictures. We have a bunch of bears in Masons Cove. No rock salt loads needed, they run, and it's truly amazing how fast, but I see them almost nightly. Several of us recognize different families of them. See... they know Wednesday is trash day... so Tuesday night they hold a Bear Convention.  ;D
