I don't know if this water bird is properly called a White Egret or a Heron. I also don't think it is an albino of the fairly common blue Herons we see here either. I have never seen another one of these up here before. I walk by this same little frog pond almost every evening on my 'sanity stroll'... this guy just showed up the other day.

I am not an ornithologist, nor do I play one on TV, but the thin beak & lack of "shaggy" neck feathers lead me to think it's an egret.  Are the legs black?

Legs are dark-colored, and not orange or peachy. I'll have to be more stealthy to get a better picture, as it is very shy. Saw it again yesterday on my hike... it's alone for sure. And making a good living in these little ponds up the road. Seems to be hitting each of them.

Today's sights from Southwest Virginia, where it's hazy, hot, humid, and very colorful.  8)

Some beautiful pics here. Places I dream about spending the rest of my life at. Nothing like this where I live.

Beautiful shots, Greg.

Peter (who'd say "I'd like to come see that", but has trouble with the heat & humidity in northern IL.........)
