Something looks amiss in these photos......it looks like a bad refinish.....the clearcoat looks like it was applied with a brush????

I agree. The reflections are very odd and not normal.
The finish doesn't look like Alembic quality.

FWIW I think this finish may be original, but the bass has been stored in a hot area and probably in a lot of light. The Purpleheart in the neck is very dark and there is significant shrinkage on the neck laminations. Every pore and figuring ripple is also had severe shrinkage. The bass looks like it's been played and loved very much, plating wear on the truss rod cover and tailpiece, but then the knobs look brand new - maybe the original owner was a "set it and forget it" type of person.
