Enjoy!
Don't mind saying I did, Dave... every last minute of it, other than loading out and driving home in some of Florence's fury. That wasn't much fun!
Since his boy, Ethan was in one of the earlier acts
"Crawford & Power" our buddy Ernie was there, and joined us on resonator guitar for the full-on 6-piece version of HGB. Since it was going to be my last gig with the guys for a while, they let me pick a couple favorites for the setlist. I chose
"Cold Rain and Snow", just because I love playing it, and Tom Petty's
"I Won't Back Down" because I felt defiant. A high point was the jam when the guys went straight from that into
> Bill Monroe's instrumental "Wheel Hoss" > Talking Heads "Burnin' Down the House". Keep up with that!
There were a bunch of people with real cameras last night, so hopefully some action pictures will emerge from the set. I got Ernie's daughter to take one of all of us together in the Green Room after the show but before we left. This is a fun buncha' guys to be around and play music with... some I've known for almost 30 years, and some just the last few. Each of them is a great player, and together they feed off that energy. We all make our share of goofs, but that fun really comes through the microphones when we play. People can tell how much we enjoy each other, and I think they enjoy watching that too.
It's been another great year, even if cut a little short. I'm sure going to miss these guys this Fall/Winter.
