2 pc Bass Bridge
« on: December 20, 2017, 02:06:06 PM »
I have a 1965 Guild Starfire that I would like to put a good bridge into. Preferably a 2 pc stop tail piece, Alembic style bridge. If anyone has any suggestions on someone who makes a similar style of bridge with the narrow string spacing 16.25mm I think. Ideally I'm after an old Alembic but any good ideas would be welcome.

If you're not set on a 2-piece assembly, just want to add some mass and a stable anchor, I've heard / read good things about the Hipshot Supertone bridges in use on Starfire or Gibson hollow-body basses.

Been thinking about one for my DeArmond Starfire.

*here's a thread that gave me the idea: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/guild-starfire-bridge-help.1156639/#post-19871816

I know Michael Dolan has also made a few bridges that are Alembic inspired.  If yiu search around,  there should be pictures of a Starfire that forum member Charles Gaston owns that has a Dolan tailpiece/bridge assemblt.

I'm with Edwin,
though I'll mention Warwick since you asked,
(not sure about the available spacing).

Warwick is a good idea. Gibson used them for years (minus the "W" on the tailpiece) on their Les Paul basses. Saddles have lateral adjustment, so you might be able to get the spacing you need. They pop up on eBay occasionally.

Well now I see why everyone always goes on about Mica, she is very nice to do business with, answered my questions and then some so, bridge problem solved. I always figured that if I don't own an Alembic (yet) I would be told to pound sand. I love these people. ;D

There aren't a lot of companies left like Alembic.

They're just the best.  ;)  My first conversation with her, I had just bought a stripped-out Alembic from a crooked ebay'r. Treated me like I'd gotten it new.

Hope you'll share your Starfire project here... I've given some thought to modding mine too.
