Mica, just picked up this Custom Distillate fretless... most is obvious, but I'm just wondering what else the files may turn up.

As Always, Thanks Bunches...   :)

Where did you find this one? Was it the bass that has been tempting you for some time now?

Yep, that be the one.  ;)

It was on Reverb for a while, then disappeared... I had sent an inquiry about it way back, so after some negotiation with the original owner, we got something equitable for both of us worked out.

Congratulations! I think I may have just found my fretless Series I. Hope to close the deal in a few days.

Here's the details from the file:

model name: Distillate
model number: DMB4
top: Bubinga
body: Mahogany
back: Bubinga
accents: none
body shape: Standard Point
neck: Maple and Purpleheart
scale: 32" medium
fingerboard: Ebony (originally fretted)
inlays: Pearloid (plastic) ovals
peghead veneers: Bubinga
pickups: AXY
electronics: DS-1 Distillate - volume, pickup selector, filter, Q-switch, bass and treble cut/flat/boost switches, mono output
originally made for: Quigley Music, KS

There's no record of us changing the fingerboard for a fretless one.

There are 2 previous registered owners of this bass.

Thanks Mica, you're the best. :)

Fascinating, and somewhat contrary to the information I was given. I bought this bass from someone who claimed at least, to have ordered it new this way.

Whatever the truth is, it's impossible to be disappointed or underwhelmed in any way... the bass is just fantastic and flawless.

*extra point trivia - this bass shares a birthday with none other than... Barbara Eden.  ;D

Just for the sake of posterity, and record-keeping, here is the current fingerboard, showing the serial number font, and sacrificial wood layer underneath. Also, the bone (?) nut.
