Just glad that (so far) everyone is safe. I have a sister in Sebastopal, and while they've been really smokey, they have not had to evacuate. One of my coworker's husband is a CDF firefighter on the Atlas fire, and he's been there since Monday morning and hasn't rested other than short naps on the line. He said that this is beyond bad...

Glad to see our Alembic family is still ok. I just got into the website right now. I haven't been able to access it since the fires were on the news.
I finally called Aunt Mary last night after 6pm here (but after 3pm your time), fearing the worst.  I was glad to hear that you were all ok for now,
but you were still having trouble with the website. My prayers are with you that this fire can be contained soon, and that you'll remain safe.

So glad to hear that your friends are okay Wolf. Hope the cats escaped, too, and are eventually found.

We have friends up in Guernville that are ready to evacuate if they have to. Been hard to communicate with them since Internet and phone service is down in the area. One of them works at the Jewish camp in Santa Rosa that was destroyed. He is a carpenter so I imagine there will be lots of work going forward but that doesn't make up for such a stressful tragedy. I haven't heard back from friends in Napa but they live in town so I am assuming they are safe so far.

Air quality in Oakland was pretty good when I woke up but has been getting worse by the hour. There is a sickly orange-yellow glow to what little sunlight is able to penetrate the smoke and haze.

Tony's mom lost her home. Tony makes the pickups here. He's taking care of her now and will probably not be back to work this week. We're all on edge and glued to local radio and phone alerts, hoping we don't get an evac order. Some friends are staying with us who had to evacuate. All Santa Rosa schools are closed. It's at least as bad as the reports on the TV.

The Coffey Park area is a forest of chimneys among smoldering ashes. There is nothing there. We just found out our accountant lost her home. We are just hoping the winds die down again because they are strong again today and the humidity is in the 12-20% range, so not good at all.

We're probably all going home early, but it was somehow comforting coming to the shop today, and just being together.

Hey Mica, having just gone through a natural disaster here in Houston, I know how you are feeling. The feeling of losing control of your environment is devastating on your nervous system. Good on you for helping out. A little help goes a long way for those who need it most. Let's them know they are not alone, and there is someone out there who cares, and is looking after them. All the best to you guys now, and during your recovery!!

We're thinking of you all here in Boulder. So sorry to hear about Tony's mom's house. I'm praying for the wind to die down and some moisture to come to the area. I've been through fires here in Colorado, but this seems somehow more ferocious. Please do keep us posted.

Much love from Edwin, Dawn, and Xander.

I was unaware that the Club could accessed without going through the website, so I was worried about you all there; Bill gave me qualified assurances via e-mail (and told me about the Club being seperate) - thanks, Bill!  Our thoughts here in the midwest are with all in CA (and FL, PR, TX.........)
Our eldest lives in Sacramento, so Mom calls about every 2 hours to see how things are there - and the little turd never answers  >:(

When I awoke this morning, sixty miles south of Santa Rosa, it smelled like a campfire and the sky was smoky/hazy, like everything was in a fog.  (If only I were an Impressionist painter!). I drove another forty mile south to San Jose for court this afternoon.  One humdred miles south of the fires, it stilled smelled strongly of smoke and visibility was significantly reduced.  The aerial shots of totally decimated neighborhoods are heartbreaking.  It seems like we've been bombarded with disasters and tragedies, one after another, lately.  Very sad.
