Alembicized!
« on: May 18, 2017, 01:20:00 AM »
Picked up my 2nd Alembic last weekend at Station Music, Germany - it took exactly one year since I ordered it but the result is overwhelming!!! That' really an ESSENCE for life! Played it already on a 6-hour gig Saturday evening - well, fits in my hands like exactly made for them! Thanks to Mica and the whole A-Team!!!

Congratulations!!  (LOVE those LED's!)
I used to think I was indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.

Congrats!

I'll bet that one is quite a change from the Spyder. 5-strings vs. 4 and the difference between the body styles being two things that are obvious.

FWIW: I used to own a Spyder and, although I loved it (massive piano-like tone and sustain for days), the logistics involved with actually playing it were just too much for me so I had to send it on to a new home.

I'm 6'-3" and have fairly long arms, but playing in first position on that beast (or tuning it) while standing was an adventure. Not to mention transporting the case - ! It was by far the largest bass case I've ever owned - it looked like a keyboard case.

But the tone was memorable - no other bass sounds like a Spyder.

Well - I am playing in a cover band, having 75 songs within the repertoire. "Modern" rock songs require the low B (like those by Pink) but the more you get back in the decades, a more hard sound is needed.
So I still need both - e.g. for playin' songs by The Who or Deep Purple the Spyder is perfect - for others the Essence is. I used to play a Ric and a custom-made 5-string with carbon neck in my "pre-Alembic" time before, changing them song-dependend.
Check out a 1h - life concert here: http://www.mediathek-hessen.de/medienview_13023_Andre-Busse-MOK-Kassel-Sonic-Six-in-concert-1-2.html
Even if the audience doesn't care (same game always, who cares about bass players and drummers :-D ) - for me it's like playin' harp in heaven, hope I will also get two different ones up there when the time comes  :D .

Ahh... the fabled 'Maroon Carpet' photo-shoot... NICE!  8)

The A-Team indeed.  :)

If you don't mind a nose-y question, what are the electronics?

I like to have the combination Pan-Volume-Low-High. So I am able to change the sound immediately, just by turning the panner more towards neck respectively bridge PU. That's why I ordered this Essence bass with the Orion-Electronic, working perfect for me.
