(?) 1977 Alembic Series l Guitar
« on: May 08, 2017, 06:29:21 AM »
Hello,
I'm new to the incredible Alembic universe :)
Is there any info out there on this guitar? It is in unplayed, pristine condition as though it was in a time capsule. I believe it to be #800 however it has no stamp.

Hopefully this link will take you to it, the file I tried to upload was toooo big ;)

I believe you must be referring to the guitar in this thread... we all drooled over it when on ebay a while back.  ;D. (I do remember it was reported as #77-800...)

If you have, or can gain access to the instrument, maybe check inside the electronics cavity and/or underneath the pickups for a hand-written number.

Wow - nice! The knobby peghead looks good on the small body.

Beautiful guitar, but the records show 800 as a completely different flavor.

Can you see if there is a handwritten number on the preamp card that is attached to the backplate? It may be possible to cross reference from that to discover this guitar's true identity.

So my first scan through the file cards shows that that card number was likely made and installed in a 1976 guitar, with #436 going in serial number 76-435. I'm still leafing through things to see if I can find where card #434 wound up and then discover just who your guitar is, but I think it's a bit earlier than 800.

Not yet - the index person completing the card records didn't always record the preamp card numbers, and I haven't found that number recorded.

Next step will be to pull actual files created from index cards and see if any that match the spec list have photos or any notation that can help. I'll warn you that this is a long process, and lots of sorting. Also, while I have stuff like that pulled, I tend to work it in my (infant) database so it takes longer to find the details but I get a two-fer while I'm handling the file.

It's on the radar, and I will update as soon as I know something else. At least we can be reasonably sure your guitar is likely from 1976 at this point.

Mica,  not to sidetrack this, but, since you will be in the '76 area,  could you keep an eye out for
the 76/450 card for me?  It has been among the missing for a number of years.
Thanks...
