Aaron,

That is a lovely looking bass.  And a nice truss rod cover too, which I think that deserves to be bolted on.  What you want is the threaded inserts that Alembic use - same as what you should have for your rear panels.  You could probably get a few inserts with their machine screw brothers from Mica.  You could even get brass headed screws if you want a close match.

Adhesive foam or double sided tape would work but you do want to have access to make adjustments every now and then.  And though Gary's magnet idea sounds very slick, there are two possible issues there.  One is, the pickup is a powerful magnet so I'm not sure it would work to have another magnet inside the pickup's field.  Though maybe you could rig it so that the cover is powerfully ejected simply by lowering the pickup until the two magnetic poles repel each other.  Slick!!  The other issue is of course vibration.  Anything that isn't securely bolted down will find a way to rattle at a certain pitch and that physical rattle can be passed through the pickups in an unmusical way...

Hey Aaron,

What a nice mellow rubato reading of that piece!  Good going.  (Nice 'verb too.)  Gotta love the Bach pieces - the greatest and most musical "exercises" one could ever need.  I have a couple that I attempt to play now and then to help keep my fingers moving.  So great.

Also, this is a fine example of something that would only speak correctly on a bass like yours.  Our series basses are not only capable of following your subtle dynamic intentions but have no problem clearly speaking those double and triple-stop chords - way down low in the frequency range.

You found the link at the top of this thread which leads to the "build card" for this nice bass.  As to how it ended up in the UK, that kind of history is hard to track.  Glad you're enjoying it.  No need to post the same question in two places, we watch for anything "new".

Well, this very bass 77 744 has somehow found its way here to the UK. I found it in a shop/web site I have been checking that occasionally gets one in. The last one 2 years ago was Neil Murrays Omega which I missed on. So I was quick off the mark for this although I would have preferred a Shorty. ( I have Piriformis Syndrome) Cant complain. It's here now and done a couple of gigs. So beautifully manufactured and the neck is fab. Great set up whoever did it, I just had to higher the action which was so easy. Got roto's on at mo and sound great.  I'm interested how it got here? (UK) Just cos I'm nosey !!! I guess it's had several owners over the years and been used all over the place! Well, it's been well looked after I must say. Some of my gits are in worst shape and only 10/20 years old. That's Rock'n'Roll!

This Bass is with me now, from a shop here in UK called "Bass Direct". I see rv_bass had a full electronics upgrade in 2020, was that with the new pick ups? What else was changed? Also, darnellbass had it in 2019 with a lovely truss rod cover which isnt on it now? Not being nosey .... just wondering how it got to UK? I love history on guitars and love seeing other pics of the bass on here. If there are any pics of it being used on gigs would be great.
