I think those basses look so outrageous that I'd love to think I would buy a 5 string. Probably not really likely though but visually it would be great to walk on stage with one for a reggae gig and command the bottom end totally!!

I've thought about that for a bluegrass gig too! Definitely some shock value in an Exploiter, or maybe a Bird-of-Prey body.
(though I could get away with a Classico!)

I'm sure others here know the exact details better than me, but I think 1983 predates continuous wood backplates.
