Alembic Pickups & Electronics for guitar anyone?
« on: December 22, 2016, 05:30:53 AM »
Well they are attached to this Ibanez Roadstar guitar but it seems cheap enough to buy just to get those bits, drop some regular pickups in it and resell the guitar. Unless of course you want to keep it as is.  I did a similar thing to get the pickups for my strat. After selling the guitar minus pickups I effectively got the bits for nothing.

I have my trusty old MIJ Strat loaned out to a real guitar player at present, but that's a very tempting project. Ideally, he should just find an Alembic of his own, and send my old guitar back.  ;D

I have a MIJ 62RI Strat with Van Zandt pickups that is killer sounding. The MIJ Strats arre some of the best, except for their pickups.

Anyone? I guess it was me! Great price for the electronics. I'm going to have to get a Q switch. And decide if I want to put them in my '83 '62 reissue or some other guitar.

After thinking about this, I think I want to put them in a hollow body guitar. I just bought some adapter rings. We'll see how this goes! 335 with Alembic strat pickups anyone? :-)

Congrats on a great deal! And if it is being shipped out of Canada today, it will go through customs before January 2, and avoid CITES paperwork for the rosewood finger board, if I understand the new international rules correctly. Cheers!!

I forgot about all that. TBH, they could just ship the pick guard with pickups, and I'd be happy. I'm not that interested in the guitar itself. I have a great 1983 US made reissue '62 strat already, and I'm interesting in getting the pickups into a jazzier style guitar.

Congrats, Edwin!  Having done several of these, I strongly suggest adding a 3-way Q.  Worth every penny of the $50 it costs.  Also gives you something to mount in the third hole on a standard Strat pick-guard.

Thanks! Email already sent to Mica! But, I really want them to go into something other than a strat. I may be completely crazy....

I might actually borrow the preamp section for my Alembic powered Modulus until I figure out where they are going.

Edwin, Are you trying to avoid Strat-type guitars, or actual Strats?  I love dropping Alembic guts into neck-through Strat-type guitars.  Another interesting candidate might be a Gibson S-1 which is already set up as a three pickup instrument.

I'm thinking avoiding a strat type guitar. Ideally, I'd like to try an ES175 type guitar, or even an ES140. I have an ES140 but it's got those killer early 60s Gibson humbuckers, so I don't want to mess with it. I have smaller hands, so Strats are always a workout. I do have one of those large body Ibanez Artcore jazz boxes I could try out.

Amazingly, it showed up today! I went off to the bathroom and when I got back there was a huge box by the front door. I asked Xander what happened and he said a man brought it in. I think we need to have the discussion about not opening the door to strangers.

But, the guitar plays surprisingly well. I haven't had a chance to plug it in yet, though. Soon enough.
