Eric I have 4 Alembics and have hard cases for each of them.  Some on this site are totally against using gig bags but I for the most part use my Reunion Blues Continental gig bags I have two. My hard cases are all lined up in storage in my basement. I have two RB gig bags and feel that they protect my basses better than the hard cases because they are padded inside and absorb impacts. They also have framing in them. If you got to YouTube and type in Reunion Blues drop test, you will see this gig bag do something that a hard case can't do.  They also have padded handles and straps for comfort of carrying. I used them for a year and a half and haul them to both gigs and practice and have never had any problems or damage. Just my 2ยข worth.

Eric,

That elan has a body shape that isn't all that far off from a jazz bass... you might try taking it to your local music store and see if it will fit the cases they have there.  As long as it fits length wise, you can add some padding to customize the fit for your Alembic.

I just watched a YouTube video of a Reunion Blues gig bag drop test - they dropped a cheap full hollow-body guitar off a four-story building.  The drop knocked both pickups out and resulted in a crack in the top.  Now, I'm not sure the result would have been any different if the guitar had been in a hard case, but the test doesn't exactly instill confidence.

LESSON TO BE LEARNED -- don't drop your instrument off a four-story building.  Ever!

I sometimes have a duty case kicking around - let me see what we have in the back back.

+1 for the Reunion Blues Continental. I have one for my Modulus and it is a very protective case. I wouldn't even really call it a gig bag, as it's far more protective than a regular bag. Plus, you can carry it on an airplane.

Make sure you measure the bass and get the case dimensions though.  I bought a Reunion Blues case, nice case as far as soft cases go, but it turns out that my long scale standard point is a little too long and doesn't  fit in the case.

I can recommend Scott Dixon cases. http://www.scottdixoninc.com/about
Or for gig bags I use harvest leather gig bags from Germany.
Both are really great quality and the Scott Dixon is basically a flight case that weighs less than a traditional hard guitar case but is the same size.
The sound of Alembic is medicine for the soul!

I have a Harvest Leather bag I'm not using, if anyone is interested.
