A friend called me out of the blue and said a friend of a friend had a bass guitar he wanted to sell. He said it belonged to a relative who had either died or left the country. I acquired it for a very reasonable price. It turned out to be an Alembic Epic 4. It was in a bit of a bad way with very heavy gauge strings on and the truss rods adjusted very tight. Some corrosion in the electronics and the bridge pickup doesn't work. All the plastic knobs are missing. I've managed to put some decent light gauge strings and get it adjusted to a nice low action. I'm still looking for some knobs. One of the Gotoh tuners is damaged and needs replacing. It plays very well. I'd love to know any history and maybe how it came to the UK. Thanks in advance. Lee

Welcome to the Forum Lee. Here's a link to the knobs you need. http://alembic.stores.yahoo.net/colletknob.html

Not sure what year the shaft diameter changed, so you'll need to verify which size before placing an order. As indicated by the serial number, your bass is a 1994 Epic.

There may be a simple solution to getting the bridge pickup working... first, make sure both pickups are plugged into the proper board. There are a number of expert do-it-yourself guys on here that can help if you post a couple pictures too.

You might want to post that query in the "troubleshooting" section to get noticed quicker. And of course you can always call the folks at Alembic for help.  ;)

Again, Welcome.

Many thanks for your reply and advice. I'll take a couple of pics of the electrics and post them on troubleshooting. Im sure it's only a minor problem with the pickup. Can't wait to get it up and running properly. Thanks again.

Thanks for everyone's help and advice. The bass is up and running as it should and sounding awesome. Here's a pic. It now takes pride of position next to my Wal bass.
