As Harry said we tell folks around here when we come across Alembic instruments or equipment up for sale. Much of the time someone is looking for something so gives them an additional way to find out what is available. Many of us will also go and check things out if the instrument is close by and a remote member asks.

As one of our better members used to say, "There will always be another".

My $.02... there are no hidden surprises on eBay. People look frequently even if they have no intention of buying and daily if they are looking for something specific or hoping to find that elusive "good deal" on something popular. When someone auctions something on eBay it is because they are hoping to get maximum money for it and it can result in overpaying. If you assign a fair price to an item it sells quickly as a "buy it now" item.

The fact that the superfilter still has zero bids leads me to believe that quite a few folks have it on their radar and it will sell in a last minute bidding war. Doubtful that Gregory "outing" the listing here will change that.

The first thing I go to search on eBay are the alembics (used to hate all the lab gear until I learned to refine the search...doh!)  And in doing that as a course of habit over the years brought me to the day when I discovered my '82 custom series I fretless, a bass I figured I'd never see again, after a twenty year separation! Whoo hoo! Talk about your positive reinforcement! Now if I can just come across the two series I's that were stolen from me decades ago....

Of the four Alembics I own, half were pointed out to me by members of this group. I would have never known of their existence if it hadn't been for the friendly posts of those here on the site. As someone has already mentioned, it is typical for members to withhold from bidding on an item in which they know another member is interested.

This bass was pointed out to me by another member here, and I said, "Wow, that looks like my old bass."  Mica saw the post, looked it up, and phoned me to tell me it was my old bass.  So I am very positive about the people who keep us all informed about what is up for sale at other places.  Though I usually set what I consider a fair price on stuff I sell, I like the idea of people getting what the market will bear at the time.  I don't want to even say what I paid for my SF-2 I got on a BIN on eBay.  I did not even read about it.  Saw the price, clicked, and got lucky.  If you have more time than money, hang around eBay a lot, and you'll find something for a good deal.  I spent three years looking for an SII before I found one.

I've bought most of my alembics from members here or from having them know what I was interested in an contact me when that bass or guitar appeared on the internet. That has enabled me to get some amazing instruments that I'm truly grateful to own.

I have a mint SF-2 that I was saving To maybe use for Monte.  It is a killer bass when using an SF-2 with it.  Then it becomes pretty much a heavily ebony'd bass with more or less SII electronics in it, a perfect combination.  But Monte is another players/Alembic Club member's bass, so I have entertained trhe idea of just selling it.  $700 and shipping anywhere in the US, and guaranteed to work perfectly.  I believe it has zero rack rash, as I am anal in installations and use plastic washers and bolts that do zero damage to the unit.  I seriously will probably quit using my F2-B preamp.  Both units are newer style, hardly used at all, and mint if I remember right.  Electronics are not like woods, where aging is a positive.  The newer tech, the better in my book, but I maybe wrong.  Since Alembic uses NASA grade components, they seem to last forever, so old is maybe fine.  Current retail on all these units are $1,675.  Well, they have always been designed for the professional in mind, so . . .  I'm certainly in no rush to get rid of anything right now.
