Bass pickup questions [take 2]
« on: August 01, 2016, 11:00:10 PM »
Apologies if anyone has seen this exact pics before, I tried posting earlier but couldn't seeming ly get it to work.

Anyone know what these may be worth...? When I pulled the knobs were crazy stuck, I think I busted to shafts? (see pics)

I may sell or try to get fixed :)

Thanks, Andy

This is almost painful to look at . . . .  If you were to try to sell this as this (formerly) complete set-up, obviously it's worthless with the two sheared pots.  Sell the pickups alone, or 'as-is', somebody else would have to hazard a guess.   Geez, weren't those barrel knobs secured with an allen set-screw?  A little WD or other penetrating oil and a few days' soak might have avoided this.  Best of Luck.

I had a similar problem when I wanted to dismount the electronics from my used Spoiler - someone had used either the wrong type of Loctite or superglue on the set-screws for the knobs, and the knobs weren't going anywhere. I eventually managed to saw through the knobs - carefully - until I got to the set-screws. Well, after all it's just some replaceable parts, with a nominal value. Sent the electronics to the Mothership for a few modificiations, and they replaced the pots, and threw in a new set of knobs, and returned the left-over old parts - that's how they operate. :)

Live 'n learn Joey,

I did take out the set screws first, they were just tight.  Frankly, it was surprising that I pulled them and they broke like that because I didn't feel like a was wrenching on them super hard.

I'm no Luthier, so of course, I had no experience. I probably should have asked someone first before reaching for the channel locks. Cie La Vie.

How much are these new pots anyway?

Get some new Clarostat pots and carefully solder them in after using a de-soldering iron to get the old ones out.
Mica can give you a price on the pots or the whole job.

The parts aren't cheap, sorry - they are made in fairly small quantities custom for us. Probably around $60 in parts, the filter pot is the real pricey one. You can email me (click on my profile name on the left) if you want to arrange to get these parts.

If you don't have a desoldering iron, you can use solder wick (provided you get yourself a nice new roll) or you can send the parts here for servicing.

Not cheap, but the best there is! :-)

Smooth and 100% quiet operation, well worth the $$$!
