1980/2015 Macassar Ebony Custom SII Electronics LSB [SOLD]
« on: July 22, 2016, 06:24:53 AM »
Originally built in 1980 as a S1 with graphite inlaid neck.  Sent to Alembic in 2011 and worked on for four years, as can be seen in this thread.

http://alembic.com/club/messages/411/99963.html?1410968434

It is in my words, perfect in every way - But of course.  It is in Mica's words, perfect and a work of love.  All materials used and craftsmanship are of the highest quality in this bass.  I seen plainer and more fancy, but never better.  I'm selling this bass because it can no longer be appropriately appreciated by me in my current state of health.  I can barely play my little short scale basses.  Worse, with AS I cannot even look at it much, unless I am standing right over it.  It saddens me greatly to let it go, but it is just wasted badly on me.
Body is Macassar ebony lams over a Circassian walnut core.
Neck is flamed maple-ebony-maple-purple heart-maple-ebony-maple-purple heart-ebony-flamed maple.  Even the purple heart is nicely flamed.  It is an asymmetrical neck, like a pre-Gibson Tobias, in fact made right off the dimension of Steve Wood's old Tobias I have.  Alembic had the bass sent in by Steve to copy it exactly from the 12th fret on.  The fundamentals on this bass are incredible, and even the harmonics are great.
Custom tail piece.
Curved rail bridge with extra beefy height adjust bolts for a more solid sustain and feel.
No battery compartment, for more sustain and more ebony left in the string path.  Screw your bass tech!
Rack mount power supply or blue box, buyer's choice.
Brand new 20 ft. Alembic five-pin cable - not an eBay made one.
Recessed Dunlop strap buttons.
Violet LEDs and red at 12th and 24th positions.
Abalone inlays with two added stars at the 24th position.
Fairy and Man-In-The-Moon inlay in first fret position.
Inlaid bronze logo with MOP and abalone inlays.
Bookmatched Macassar ebony front and back of headstock, not just in the front.
Knobs are custom made ebony and 24K gold square wire made by David King in Oregon - Tiny works of art themselves.  They are exact replicas of Alembic hat knobs and chicken head switch knobs.  Perfect!
Pickups are old ALEMBIC embossed style.
All gold hardware.
Hipshot Ultra Lite machines.
Adjustable nut has custom two holding screws and two height screws (No holding screw under the D string).
Omega cut body, tailpiece, and headstock.
Headstock beveled on both sides.
New Jan-al top-of-the-line flight case with wheels.

I will be taking pictures of it and posting in this thread.  E-mail me in seriously interested.

Would love to see some more pics, the bass seems wonderful. Whats the scale length?

Questions on length and price:  It's an LSB = 34"  And price will be $10,000 - Which is cheap for what it is, especially since it is virtually a brand new bass. Immaculate.  By the time I got it, I could no longer play it for more than five minutes, and that hurt. I cannot reach the 1st fret.  I'll try and get pix taken and up today.  I am in no rush to get rid of this bass.

Thomas; I normally wouldn't want to hijack someone's "for sale" thread, but I just wanted to say that I am saddened to hear that your health issues are preventing you from enjoying this beautiful instrument, and that I wish for you all the best.  You are in my thoughts, and heart, this evening.

I took 20 or more pictures, but the vast majority really suck.  I need to rethink how I use this new camera.  20 megapixel, so shots are more than 4K screen resolution.  It is angling the shot that is the problem.  The bass just acts like a mirror, so you know it is a bass, but has stucco textures, clouds, blue sky - everything except the nice wood and its coloring I want to present.  A couple of the rear head shots came out almost decent - could be a lot better.  What is the maximum size you can post here, now?  I'm sure I cannot post 4MB files here.

It talking to the originator of a thread considered hijacking it now?  I don't care.  There are all kinds of shames in life, but finding a new owner of this bass won't be one of em.  Both of us are just plodding down the paths we need to go.  Easy!  Hmmm, I just picked up almost 600 more posts than I had.  Changing the board must have combined my old accounts.  It does not 'feel' like home anymore, but I guess it works a lot better.  OK.

The new picture size limit is 500MB per picture, ten pictures per post are allowed.
If you can find something dark to put behind you to minimize the reflections, that might help.
