Airport Music

Spent the last 24 hours in airports in Coimbatore and Bangalore, India as well as Abu Dhabi U.A.E. hearing the same insanely lame soft jazz with Kenny G. At least I can now attest to the fact that it's universally bad regardless of the country in which you hear it.  Oh yes! They also played only 4 songs (of the same caliber....one was actually Kenny G.) over and over again the dining area of the hotel where I've stayed for the last 11 days.  It got to be too much when I heard Touch of Grey done in that manner.  Yes it was only four songs and they played them ALL day.  At the point now where I'm getting nauseous just thinking about food.

I heard a Muzak version of 'born to be wild' when I was a bike courier in the 80's, knew the revolution was over right there...but really, public places perform these crimes of music and then wonder why people snap?! just be glad you don't work there...Tony

An acupuncture clinic I visited for a while had a new age(remember that?)  version of Steve Miller's "abracadabra" on the loop.

A few years ago one of our supermarket chains here was buying music from a service that had a great playlist.  My favourite on the list was Betty Wright's "Clean Up Woman".  I used to shop slow so I could hear it twice.  I think places should just play the real thing, rather than cleaned-up smooth jazz versions of everything.  And I'll keep saying that until I get a session gig recording smooth jazz versions of old tunes myself.
