Alembic Jazz Bass body (?)
« on: November 28, 2004, 10:22:17 AM »
Here?s a listing of a bass that?s supposed to be an Alembic body with a Schecter neck - didn?t know Alembic did replacements like that... I?d also doubt the old Fender pickups, or am I totally mistaken here?

Sure is a pretty J body, but I doubt Alembic had anything to do with it.  For one thing, it's a bolt-on design.  If memory serves, in past threads, Mica has indicated Alembic doesn't have any experience in bolt-ons.  Now, she was referring to bolt-on necks - not bodies.  Clearly routing a neck pocket is not rocket science - However, in other threads, the Alembicians have declined requests to build parts to be used with other manufacturers' components because they could not guarantee the final performance.

All that said, I'd love to know if I'm wrong about this one...

Last July this rather interesting thread came up, about bolt-on basses with the Alembic name - Mica commented: There were about 25 of these made by our importer in Japan in the early or mid eighties (my memory isn't exact on the date). The exchange rate was very bad at the time, and they had a big concern to keep the brand active in their market. We licensed them to make these basses, they purchased our electronics and logo and they did the fabrication. They were only available in Japan. (http://club.alembic.com/Images/393/10964.html)

Alembic did do build-your-own kits at one time, but I'm not sure they came in bolt-on versions.

These Japanese bolt - ons... I seem to remember a headless bass with a sort of violin shaped body, right? Unfortunately the link in the original message seems to be broken.

Hi,  These were 80's ALEMBIC JAPAN basses.

Yes, The body shape was original. I think, it was designed and built by Japanese luthier. These were NOT Fender shape !

Wow, I love the body shape!!!
Does anyone know what electronics were used for these?
It is odd seeing this with the Alembic Logo, somehow doesint seem right ... (the bolt on neck and non alembic hardware most notably)
Wish I could get my hands on one though!

Well, if indeed only 25 were built then it's as rare as a Spyder8 ...

Also very intriguing: the capion GUITAR? Yes, coming soon ...

This project was produced by 80's Japanese distributor Rokkomann
I thought, more than 25 were made.
But these were controled by parts supply (Activator PU with circuit and Logo).
Now I believe, these were rare piece only 25 produced as Mica said.
The electronics was Activator JJ or 2 Humbacking with Vol, Pan (or 2 Vol) and Filter.
I don't know the guitar was made or not.

This thread is Alembic JAZZ Bass body.
I think there were not by ALEMBIC.
The bass has No ALEMBIC logo and No ALEMBIC pickup.

But we know, Early Graphite replacement neck for Fender had ALEMBIC printed logo.

Well err. that's not a Jazz bass body, it's a Precision Bass body.

There's a difference between those two shapes.
