Hi folks , thanks to you all and Valentino , i made my mind for everything of my new series 2 new balance k 4 strings . Just for the wood , i'm looking for many pictures of buckeye burl bass guitars to decide . Comments on this wood are welcome . Thanks

There are a bunch out there.  You can check the Alembic website wood samples page.  Additionally, if you go through the Alembic dealers listing and check the various websites, you will run across several buckeye burl basses.  There's also one currently under construction that can be seen on the Factory To Customer board.

  I somehow totally missed your Showcase entry for this beautiful bass...congratulations! I've not seen an Essence with a BB top...must be somewhat rare, no?

Actually, this was #23....  I PROMISED myself that it would be my last.  It sounds and plays great.  I don't think its top wood really contributes anything to its sound though.  Rather, the mass of its 5 string neck-through-body contribute to its clarity and sustain.  If I would have ordered it, I would have had Rogue electronics installed instead of the simple (and limiting) Essence electronics.  
But I love it just the same.

Hi folks , thank you all for your pictures and comments . I had Valentino on the phone last week and he told me that ebony top was very nice indeed but could crack...and so it was not 100% garantee that the top would stay entire . About coco bolo , he told me it was the very best wood for clarity and sustain , 90% of the sound was made by the electronics and neck-thru and the 10% last percent by this peculiar wood : coco bolo . I trust him of course 100% so my question is : do someone already played a buckeye burl and  a coco bolo and found a difference in the sound ? I really like ebony and buckeye so...

What happened to my Bass was an Alembic first.  The cracking occured during an unusually dry period.  As you may know, the climate in Califorina is usually warm and dry, and until it's sealed, bare wood can be sensitive to environmental changes.  Too humid, wood can warp.  Too dry, wood can crack.  It's a very rare chance, but it would only happen during the construction of your Bass.  Once the Bass is sealed with a finish, it's protected from future risk.

Don't be turned off to Macassar Ebony as a top wood.  It's been around for a long time and used for instruments and fine furniture just as long.  
It's the responsibilty of the manufacturer of the instruments to know how to properly handle it and seal it from the environment so it won't crack.

Anyway , thank's a lot for your explantions about ebony macassar . When we saw your bass for the first time , we were just without words to describe it : wonderful , gorgeous...not enough words : super great taste and choice . Now , i just picked coco bolo to be my wood , with 3 ebony laminates and heart omega cut . I've seen a piece of coco bolo that i liked but it's Valentino's one i guess , reserverd for his next bass...but some other are great too . About ebony macassar , i really do love the combination of clear and dark wood , it's really superb . I also like buckeye burl , ...with 3 eb.stripes that must be nice too...but i didn't find the piece of buckeye i wanted . BTW , susan should be going for a  buckeye buying trip  in january or february ...a bit too late because my firm order should be placed before 31-12-2004 of course...i don't really want to pay 15% more since next january...
 
Choosing what i wanted for my new bass has been really hard , i didn't figure it would be so hard ...but so much choices...

One last thought for you.  You can place your order and pay your down payment, but ask them to wait on construction until the next set of wood arrives.  You could even identify, based upon the basses you've viewed, what look you prefer.  If you're lucky, they will be able to find the perfect piece for you and your bass will be delayed a month or two in delivery.  
 
We spent Thanksgiving '03 in northern Europe, and that day we were in Brussels.  I really enjoyed that country, and we found the Zorg dat Bob road signs all over the place particularly funny.  Well, the presentation was funny, certainly their purpose was not.

Thank's for the advices ; my down payement is already done , so i'll think about delaying my order for 1 or 2 month , that's a good idea...will i be able to wait that long time...?
 
About Bob , if i understand what you say , here is what that is : at first , let me tell you that there are 2 languages in belgium , french and dutch ( a bit german too) ; what you saw was dutch . Bob is the name of the person who will not drink alcohol when you go out with a lot of friends . Bob will drive the car for the night and drive everyone safe home . So , everyboby drinks but him...that's a good idea that works , but you know like me that sometimes , there is an exception to a rule ...and the bob drinks...in that case , bob 's interest is not to get caught by the police , because in that case , he'll spend a very hard and bad time ...you see what i mean ...So next time you come here in belgium , everyone let me know and meet !!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, knew what the signs meant.  We just found them funny and well presented.  They were notable, particularly in comparison to the way driving under the influence is treated in the US.  Our anti-stupidity marketing generally consists of authority figures arresting offenders and otherwise threatening you with penalties.  
 
As far as delaying the build of your instrument, all you can do is ask.  As far as your personal ability to survive the wait, that will be something you must determine for yourself.  I know that in my case, I would rather wait an extre two months to get what I really want than compromise on a purchase that should be once in a lifetime.  I'd sooner compromise on a new car that I will have for 5-10 years than my eternal bass.
