Apologies to those of you that are already aware of the '99 Warfield shows and who would say to me . . . uhh . . . where have YOU been

. . .

For anyone that has not heard the Phil Lesh and Friends shows, April 15, 16, 17 at the Warfield Theater, Deadhead, Phish fan, Kimock fan, jazz/rock/improvisation fan (or if you're breathing and like well crafted beautiful sound) - you owe it to yourself to download these amazing shows.

Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay - Vocals

I just discovered these gems and I am stunned in aesthetic arrest. The Stella Blue with Steve Kimock on the pedal steel is positively mood altering. My Favorite Things is face melting. Mostly Dead songs with a few Phish tunes thrown in and some Kimock classics. Some of the vocals are a bit ragged but the instrumental work (80+% of the material) is absolutely first rate.

It took almost six years for this music to find it's way to my ears - it's sure to be a group of live recordings that gets a lot of play in my rotation over the years to come. There are several sources for each of the three evenings including some excellent soundboard recordings (very close to commercial quality). Lossless file formats (recommended) FLAC, SHN and mp3s available.

I have been so blown away by these shows I just had to share it with the club in case anyone might be unaware of this music. =D

As there are several sources available, do you have a recommendation; especially for those of us that tend to listen critically to the low end of the frequency spectrum. I've downloaded Phil and Friends before (7/23/02), but this is a different lineup; and your review sounds great.

Dave - I believe most of the soundboard and board/matrix sources are available to stream as well as download. If you have half decent speakers on your computer you can get a sense of the mix by streaming a few numbers before downloading. I downloaded the Charlie Miller versions listed as follows: Source: SBD (24 Track Recording Mix) -> Master Dat (44.1k). They are very clean and balanced to my ears.

Thanks Tom. My computer has terrible speakers actually; but I'll check the site out later and may just go with your recommendation.
