From Anthem to Beauty

Dead Heads:

Ck out the RHINO DVD Classic Albums Series title Grateful Dead: From Anthem To Beauty.

It's a documentary about the recording of Anthem of the Sun, Aoxomoxoa, Workingman's Dead, and American Beauty. Lesh, Weir, Hart, Hunter, Constanten, and Jerry (!) recount the studio experience, and dissect some of the songs contained therein at the mixing console. The flick is peppered with live and/or TV appearance video, some of which I haven't seen elsewhere. Anything with Pig Pen on it can't be bad, LOL!

Highly Recommended!

I got Anthem to Beauty a couple of years or so ago when it came out.  An absolutely wonderful DVD.

Another must for Jerry fans is Grateful Dawg.  It is a documentary put together by David Grisman's daughter who recorded on home movies/video Jerry and David jamming together and just hanging out at David's house while his daughter was growing up.  Great music and insight into the real people behind the tunes.  Joe Bob sez Check it out!

Another great recent release is Festival Express.  I was lucky enough to catch this on the big screen but it is now on DVD.

Yup. We hashed-out the pro's/con's of Festival when it first hit DVD issue on these very pages last year. That one is a long-forgotten gem that was resurrected from dead in the not-so-distant past. Thank God for the current state of digital restorative technoplogy!

I've said it before, anything with Pig Pen on it can't be half-bad, LOL!
