In case anybody is interested,here is a place in Indy that I work as well as play gigs at.
I work as a sound tech 3 nights a week and get to meet alot of different bass players and see what they use for gear.I'm glad that I started working at the Noodle as a sound tech just for that very reason,plus the extra cash comes in handy.It may not be for everybody but I would suggest that musicians try working a busy club as a sound person.It really helps in alot of ways.and besides that,I think musicians make the best sound tech's.People seem to like how I mix sound and learning how to use the equipment has helped when I play with other groups that use they're own P.A.Anyway,the Noodle is a good place to book a gig if you are on a circuit and need a place to fill a hole in your schedual or to book for a weekend if your band is in the area.

absolute blues-lover over here in Belgium.  
a little bit far to touring the Indy way.
You're right about the technician/musician thing. We're a small band with no sound engineer with us. BUT... last week we had a concert for the Harley-club in the neighbourhood and we played with a fully equipped PA. The guy behind it was a musician too ,,,man ...wonderfull!!!

I see you've got Tinsley Ellis coming in next week.  Check out his rhythm guitar player.  Seriously.  It's worth the price of admission to stand by the side of the stage and just watch this guy.  Wonderful tone, tasty licks.
